Working in Australia

Holders of student visas may be employed on a casual basis; however, you can only begin work once you have commenced your course.

While your course is in session, you may undertake a maximum of 20 hours work per week, including hours that are unpaid or voluntary. Any work undertaken as part of your course is exempt from these restrictions.

In break periods when your course is not in session, you may undertake as many hours of work as you like.

Students are commonly employed in retail, hospitality and administrative positions

A better-paying alternative can sometimes be found as a tutor, online writer, in your field of study or native language.
