Overview

The University of Western Sydney has about 35,000 students spread out over several campuses and offshore as well. It is a university that looks to the future with an international focus and embraces the diversity and richness of many cultures.

Location

The University of Western Sydney is located in Greater Western Sydney which is a region that carries about one tenth of the nation’s population and embraces 14 local government areas along with a rich diversity of ethnic and cultural groups.

The area includes the Blue Mountains World Heritage area, rural areas, the Olympic facilities used in the 2000 Olympic Games, high tech business precincts and local commercial and retail centres.


Campuses

Bankstown campus is in Milperra in Sydney’s southwest, 30 minutes by car from the Sydney CBD, and is also connected to the city by rail.

Nirimba Education Precinct is in Quaker’s Hill, Blacktown, in Sydney’s west and is about 50 minutes by car from the Sydney CBD, with a good rail connection to the city.

Campbelltown campus is about 60 minutes southwest of the Sydney CBD and is commtected to the city by motorways and rail.

Hawkesbury campus is at Richmond in Sydney’s northwest, about 80 minutes by car from the Sydney CBD.

Parramatta campus is located at Rydalmere in Sydney’s west, about 40 minutes by car from the Sydney CBD, and there is a good rail link with the city.

Penrith campus is situated on three sites and is located 70 minutes by car west of Sydney and 30 minutes from Parramatta. There is a good rail connection with the city.

All campuses provide help with accommodation, careers & cooperative education, childcare centres, health care in a variety of modalities, counselling services, IT services, services for Indigenous and International students, sport and leisure facilities, and up to date teaching and learning facilities.


Courses

The UWS offers courses in Arts, Humanities and Languages, Business, Creative and Communication Arts, Engineering and Information Technology, Environment and Tourism, Forensics, Health Sciences, Nursing and Sport Studies, International Studies, Law, Medicine, Natural and Built Environment, Tourism, Policing and Criminology, Psychology, Science, Social Science, and Teaching and Education.


English Courses

The UWS College offers Communicating in English (General English), Academic English for Tertiary Studies, Advanced Academic English Skills, English and UWS Study Abroad Package, and IELTS Test Preparation.


Entry Requirements

Academic requirements for undergraduate entry vary depending on country of origin while English language generally requires an IELTS of 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0.

Postgraduate entry generally requires the successful completion of the recognised equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree and an IELTS of 6.5 overall witjh no band less than 6.0. This may vary depending on the course chosen.

Enrolment dates

The UWS operates on a two semester and four quarterly session basis. Students are advised to apply well in advance of their intended commencement to allow time for processing of applications.

UWS Sport & Leisure organises a range of sporting, social and recreational activities throughout the year and students often organise their own spontaneous informal activities.
